Limescale forms when hard water is heated with over 60% of the UK suffering from hard water. In many areas, water is hard due to calcium carbonate from limestone rocks. Limescale reduces appliance efficiency, increases energy use, and leads to higher maintenance and repair costs.
Limescale leaves sediment in kettles, builds up in washing machines damaging clothes, and can cause steam irons to spit brown residue. It is most common in hard water areas, where appliances should be descaled every 3 months, and in soft water areas every 6 months.
How to descale a kettle:
1) Half fill the kettle and boil
2) Slowly add the content of 1 sachet and leave for 10 mintues
3) Pour solution away and then refill half the kettle and boil once more
How to descale a dishwasher: (suitable for all makes of dishwasher)
1) Empty dishwasher and pour the contents of 1 sachet onto the bottom of the machine
2) Run a normal program without a pre-wash
How to descale a washing machine: (suitable for front-loading automatic machines only)
1) Empty washing machine and add the contents of 1 sachet to the drum
2) Select and run a 60 degree cycle without a pre-wash
